Eppendorf offers mechanical, electronic, and multichannel pipettes for manual liquid handling, as well as systems for automated liquid handling. The portfolio also includes benchtop and floor-standing centrifuges, temperature-control and mixing devices, ultra-low-temperature freezers, and bioreactors. Consumables such as pipette tips, reaction tubes, plates, and more – available in both conventional and biobased versions – complete the offering. Some of the most recent innovations include the mechanical Eppendorf Research^® 3 neo pipettes and the refrigerated SpinPro^® 6 R benchtop centrifuge.

The Eppendorf Research^® 3 neo features a Volume Gear Shift for faster and more effortless volume adjustment, as well as a Volume Lock that prevents accidental changes to the set volume during pipetting. Additionally, the flexible ColorTag marking rings allow each pipette to be individually labeled. New to the lineup are also the globally popular Safe-Lock Tubes, now available in a bio-based version made from renewable raw materials.

The SpinPro^® 6 R centrifuge, the first in Eppendorf’s new range of SpinPro floor standing and benchtop centrifuges. With an advanced user-interface and ergonomic operation, the SpinPro® 6 R provides a flexible, and scalable solution for sample separation.

Building on Eppendorf’s established range of benchtop centrifuges, the refrigerated SpinPro^® 6 R benchtop centrifuge offers additional smart features to streamline workflows including new rotors with universal adapters. These rotors can be interchanged within various models of the upcoming SpinPro® line, reducing inventory and minimising costs. With a wide range of compatible vessels, the rotors can support applications such as cell culture harvesting, processing of biological samples and isolation of proteins across pharma, biotech, food, and agriculture sectors. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chipped rotors enable instant recognition, increasing safety for both samples and users. All new fixed-angle rotors are equipped with Eppendorf QuickLock^® Pro lids for fast and easy one-handed operation.

For Eppendorf, corporate responsibility extends far beyond warehousing and distribution. The entire value chain is the focus, covering topics such as climate change, natural resources, social compliance, human well-being, digitalization, and societal impact – from raw-material suppliers to customers.

A certified environmental management system according to DIN EN ISO 14001 and EMAS forms the foundation and is continuously improved. This system helps identify and reduce environmental impacts.

In the product area, Eppendorf focuses on resource conservation and energy efficiency. Examples include developing more energy-efficient laboratory devices and reducing material usage in consumables (e.g., pipette tip racks with up to 35 percent less material). Also, many consumables are available as bio-based alternatives made from biodegradable plastics. All efforts aim to further reduce the company’s ecological footprint.

Eppendorf was founded in 1945 in Hamburg, Germany, by a working group led by Dr. Heinrich Netheler and Dr. Hans Hinz.

Dr. Heinrich Netheler was a physicist, and Dr. Hans Hinz was an engineer. They used their expertise in radar and electrical engineering to develop medical devices and build Eppendorf after World War II.

• 1950s: Development of the “Eppendorf” photometer
  
• 1960s: Launch of the world’s first industrially manufactured piston-stroke pipette (“Marburg pipette”) and the first “Eppendorf Tubes.” Introduction of the “Microliter System Eppendorf.” Completion of the headquarters on Barkhausenweg in Hamburg, Germany.
  
• 1970s: Opening of a production site for disposable plastic consumables in Oldenburg (Schleswig‑Holstein), Germany; launch of the Multipette 4780.
  
• 1980s: Eppendorf becomes a registered global brand; surpasses 100 million DM in revenue and employs more than 1,000 people for the first time.
  
• 1990s: Systematic internationalization with subsidiaries in Europe, North America, and Asia. Acquisition of German centrifuge manufacturer Heinz Janetzki Maschinenbau KG in Leipzig, Germany.
  
• 2000s: Opening of a new manufacturing site in Enfield, Connecticut, USA; launch of the Research® plus pipette.
  
• 2010s: Eppendorf introduces more products than ever before, employing 2,500 people in 21 countries and operating in all major global markets.
  
• 2020s: Acquisition of the centrifuge business of Japan’s Koki Holdings Co., Ltd.; surpassing €1 billion in revenue for the first time. Launch of Biobased Consumables. Opening of a new production site in Pinghu, China.
